How we work

We focus on design, as good architecture should … whether a small domestic design or a large corporate project, we endeavour to bring scope, breadth and depth to your vision.

We believe that your whole project - from the initial drafts to the completion - must be inspired by the essence of the design. But we are not just visionaries; we understand the importance of build ability, working to projected financial budgets, designing in energy efficiency, designing out waste. In short; we understand how buildings are constructed. Our wide range of techniques, including computer aided modelling (Building Information Modeling (BIM), energy analysis modelling, colour imaging, animations and flythroughs, help illustrate how we can work to maximise the potential of your site through careful design … all before construction even begins.

Duplicating super efficient German methodologies, systems and workflows, we strive to provide project quality. By coordinating with the various teams and contractors, conducting periodic design and production reviews, as well as site inspections that monitor progress and quality, your project will be managed in an active and goal-oriented way.

We endeavour to maximise the potential of challenging sites and ensure that you will be working with a team that realises the best possible solutions. We foster excellent relations with planning and building control officers, working as a team to determine best outcomes in order to reduce planning and regulatory approval hassles to a minimum … saving you both time and money!

Most importantly, we understand that no two clients or their projects are alike. So, the first step when starting a new project is to establish a lasting and trusting partnership with you. We’ll listen to you and talk you through your individual design and explain, in our personal way, how we can work together realise your vision.

What we do

No two Hoch Bau designs are the same. we take a holistic, sustainable approach to all of our projects. This is done by developing the approriate brief through understanding the client aspirations, responding to the site locality and determining the project constraints and opportunities. These key studies inform the central design strategy and architectural response to the brief.

A key principle of the practice is to ensure a client centred focus of research and testing before the final scheme is reached.

Forming collaborative relationships and honing our skils allows us to maximise the possibilities within a project and create high quality, considered envirnoments.

We provide a full programme of architectural service including :

Who we are

The original practice was set up in 2010 by Ty Milsom as a multi disciplined building consultancy, following 25 years experience in the construction and civils sectors. Following time spent in Germany, it was clear that we wanted to embrace their systems of work and efficiency.

By 2013 it was obvious that our interests and workflows were becoming increasingly architecturally based, in particular with our expertise in Building Information Modeling. And so Hoch-Bau Architecture was formed.

Inside the practice, we foster a genuinely collaborative working culture.

We focus on assembling talented teams that are dedicated to meeting client goals and, through creative endeavour, delivering buildings of recognisable quality. This shared creative team approach ensures that every project not only responds to the brief and its context, but also allows the individual energies of the team to give an architectural attitude - or identity - to the project as a whole.

The practice’s growing portfolio is diverse and reflects the desire to avoid specialisation and an interest in getting involved with a variety of places, people and building types. The list of clients includes private individuals and both public and commercial organisations.
